Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ
In September 2012, Bishop Gaylord recommended Pastor Kelly to Bishop Clemmons as Bishop Clemmons prepared for retirement after 40 years of service as pastor and founder of Miracle Temple COGIC, Norwalk, CT. Over the next year, Pastor Kelly ministered at Miracle Temple several times in "view of a call." Finally, in July 2013, Pastor Kelly was selected by the Miracle Temple's search committee to succeed Bishop Clemmons as the 2nd pastor of Miracle Temple, COGIC. In August 2013, Pastor Kelly began his service as interim pastor and on Saturday, September 7, 2013, he was officially installed by Bishop H.D. Bordeaux, Prelate of Connecticut's 2nd Jurisdiction, COGIC.
Pastor Kelly has extensive experience in the field of leadership and organizational development. He has served as a director of human resources, a national career counselor and professional trainer of staff development for major non-profit organizations throughout the northeast. Currently, Pastor Kelly provides leadership training and development for a youth organization of over 300 students in the state of New Jersey.
As a former associate elder at the historic Kelly Temple, COGIC, New York, Pastor Kelly was mentored and groomed for Christian service by Bishop James H. Gaylord, Pastor of Kelly Temple and Prelate of Eastern New York, Jurisdiction #1, COGIC. Pastor Kelly served for almost 15 years at Kelly Temple in key leadership positions to include chairman of the Boys to Men Youth Ministry, administrative director of Youth Ministries, and president of the Men's Department.
Pastor Kelly was born in Florence, SC where he graduated from Francis Marion University with a Bachelor Degree in Sociology. After graduating, Pastor Kelly served as an active duty and reserve officer in the United States Army. During his military career he rose quickly through the ranks and emerged as a highly decorated veteran having participated in several military conflicts to include the Gulf War in Iraq, the struggle for democracy in Haiti, the war in Bosnia, and the (second) war in Iraq.
In 2003, Pastor Kelly had the awesome task of overseeing the building of the first Christian church on a military base in the country of Kosovo. In 2007, Pastor Kelly retired from the Army with the highly coveted Bronze Star Medal and the esteemed rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
